March 'Skeptics in the Pub' Meeting

From our Friends in England:

From: marc@marcla.demon.co.uk (Marc LaChapelle)

This is your reminder about the 'Skeptics in the Pub' meeting for March:

 DATE - Thursday, March 16th
 TIME - 19:30
PLACE- Upstairs in the Florence Nightingale pub
 199 Westminster Bridge Road,
 London, SE1,
Junction with York Road, on the roundabout, near Waterloo station.

The talk this month is entitled "How Can You Be Sure?" and will be given
by Dr Julian Baggini, editor of the 'Philosopher's Magazine'.

Skeptics generally feel confident in rejecting belief in things like the
paranormal, UFOs astrology etc. But how can we really be sure what
constitutes valid grounds for belief in anything? Julian will explore
the basis of belief and the limits of justification in considering what
kinds of proof and justifications are adequate for a belief to be held.
There will plenty of time for discussion.

A welcome is extended to anyone interested in, or skeptical about, the
paranormal, alternative medicine, psychic powers, pseudo-science,
UFOs, alien abductions, creationism, Fortean phenomena, cult religions,
 water-divining, lost civilisations, etc.

The talk will be followed by informal discussion in a relaxed and friendly
pub atmosphere. Guest ales and food available. Non-skeptics are welcome
and you can turn up at any time during the night.

And in case anyone is doing any longer range planning, please note that the
meetings for MAY and JUNE only will be held on the third WEDNESDAY,
