First, members of the chiropractic community were hit with a $12-million lawsuit over a stroke death that resulted from a chiropractic manipulation. Then, a Toronto neurologist announced that the early results of his study suggest chiropractic neck manipulation may be the largest cause of vertebral dissection which is the major cause of strokes in Canadians under 45. Next, an article in the latest issue of Canadian Lawyer pretty much declared open season on chiropractors and alternative practitioners who cause harm with unproven therapies. And, finally, the bid by the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) to affiliate with York University appears to be in trouble. That crucial drive for academic respectability opened the theory, practice and teaching of chiropractic in Canada to public scrutiny. CANOE conducted a two-month interactive investigation into chiropractic. For more on this story go to: http://www.canoe.ca/ChiroYork
